The head office of the Warsaw Stock Exchange has hosted the first meeting of the GPW IPO Academy, a comprehensive educational programme addressed to companies planning to go public. The two-day event initiated a five-month programme of workshops designed to comprehensively prepare companies for joining the public market.

Participants in the first edition of the GPW IPO Academy are best proof of strong interest in going public. Thirty-five representatives of 29 companies have applied to take part in the programme, almost three times more than initially anticipated. The high response confirms the need for education about the capital markets and good preparation for an IPO. The participants include companies from key sectors of the economy, including defence, energy, transport and logistics, IT, fintech, and retail.

The programme was opened by GPW President Tomasz Bardziłowski, who emphasised the importance of the GPW IPO Academy for the development of the capital market and support for companies planning an IPO.

The GPW IPO Academy not only provides knowledge and tools but above all opens up new opportunities for companies to raise capital for growth, increase transparency, and build lasting relationships with investors. An IPO is a turning point which often marks the beginning of a new chapter in the company’s history. We want this step to be informed and well-prepared,” said Tomasz Bardziłowski, President of the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

The event was attended by Minister of Finance Andrzej Domański, who personally welcomed the participants and emphasised the role of the capital market in stimulating investments, effective use of domestic savings, and support for corporate growth.

To keep up the pace of growth, we need to stimulate investment. We have the expertise, ambition, and projects that can bring about genuine change in the economy. Cooperation between public institutions and businesses is crucial. Companies ready to go public on the Warsaw Stock Exchange have the chance to become the driving force behind this change,” said Minister of Finance Andrzej Domański.

The first meeting of the GPW IPO Academy equipped participants with comprehensive knowledge about preparing for an IPO. The thematic modules covered key issues related to the IPO process, from the capital and liquidity needs of companies, through issue documentation and valuation, to IPO marketing. Participants learned about the rules of SPOs and ABBs, strategies for communicating with investors, and best practices for incentive programmes and stock options for managers. The workshops were practical in nature, led by capital market experts, advisors, and representatives of GPW. The participants met with Krzysztof Szyszka, CEO and founder of Vercom, owner of one of the companies invited to the “Coffee with an Expert” series, who has completed a successful IPO.

The GPW IPO Academy programme is designed as an intensive, precisely calibrated series of workshops, fully dedicated to preparing companies for listing on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Interest in the initiative exceeded our expectations: there were so many applicants that we raised the participant limit and opened a waiting list for future editions. Nearly 30 companies are participating in the first edition, which shows that interest in the capital market has rebounded. The workshops not only show how to go public on GPW but also highlight the benefits of being an issuer. We hope to soon see the Academy participants on the Trading Floor as newly listed issuers,” said Izabela Mikołajczyk, Director of GPW’s Primary Market Department.

The GPW IPO Academy includes five weekend sessions (Friday–Saturday) held at the Exchange’s head office. The workshops are conducted by experts from recognised capital market institutions, including mBank, Baker McKenzie, EY, Navigator, Michael/Ström, GESSEL, NBS, and CC Group. The programme includes meetings with the CEOs of companies listed on GPW, who share the experience from their IPO.

With the GPW IPO Academy, participants not only gain knowledge but also build relationships with key market partners, which greatly increases their chances of a successful IPO and further growth as a public company.
